Placeholder notice: This document is a working draft intended to give pet parents and service providers a plain-language overview of our intended privacy practices. A finalized, lawyer-reviewed version will replace this page before we enter general availability.
1. Who we are
PET SCION ("we," "us," or "our") operates an online marketplace that connects pet parents in Canada with vetted pet-care service providers (walkers, sitters, groomers, trainers, vets, insurers, boarding hosts). For the purposes of this policy, PET SCION is the organization responsible for handling your personal information.
2. The information we collect
We only collect information we genuinely need. Specifically:
- Account information: name, email, phone number, postal code, password.
- Pet information: your pet's name, species, breed, age, medical notes, and photos (you provide these).
- Booking information: service requested, provider chosen, dates, messages exchanged, reviews.
- Payment information: handled by our PCI-compliant payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
- Identity verification (providers only): government ID, background check results, insurance certificates.
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser, pages visited — standard web analytics.
3. Why we collect it
- To match you with providers and process bookings.
- To verify providers and maintain a safe marketplace.
- To send booking confirmations, reminders, and safety notifications.
- To comply with legal obligations (tax, records, anti-fraud).
- To improve the product — always in aggregate, never by selling your data.
4. Who we share it with
- The provider you book. They need enough information to safely care for your pet.
- Service sub-processors — payments, email delivery, cloud hosting, background-check providers — under strict data-processing agreements.
- Law enforcement when legally required.
- No one else. We don't sell personal data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't rent it.
5. Where your data lives
Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure located in Canada. Some sub-processors (for example, email delivery) may process data outside Canada. When they do, we require equivalent privacy protections through written agreements.
6. How we protect it
- Encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest.
- Role-based access controls — employees see only what they need to do their job.
- Regular security reviews and dependency updates.
- Mandatory breach notification within 72 hours, as PIPEDA requires.
7. Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that's inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated data (with exceptions for records we must retain, such as tax records).
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if we fail to address your concerns.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@petscion.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Cookies and tracking
We use a minimal set of cookies required for authentication, session management, and privacy-respecting analytics. We don't run third-party advertising trackers. A full cookie list will be available in our cookie settings panel at launch.
9. Children's privacy
PET SCION is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn we've collected information from a minor, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change. Material changes will be communicated by email and a prominent notice on the site.
